The Beginnings:
A Cozy Start

There was a small event agency named Tapaus, Founded by Timo and Joonas in 2012 with a heartfelt philosophy: success comes from happy employees  who provide a top-notch service to clients. They envisioned a group of passionate individuals, all wearing woolen socks, working in a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Growth and Ambition

It wasn’t easy for Tapaus to stay small. The company grew rapidly, becoming Finland’s largest event company and a leader in the Nordics within just six years. In a 2018 strategy meeting in Warsaw, they dared to dream bigger. They called 2020 “The Year of Columbus,” and dreamt of an expansion beyond borders. The plan was written down on a napkin in a restaurant, and then they almost forgot about it… but then, three months later, Timo got a call from Kimmo Vanne from MB funds. During that very first long phone call, they realized they both had been dreaming the same dream, and a strong partner for this journey had been found.

The Second
Groundbreaking Idea

Many big agencies had tried before by growing organically and implementing their company and home culture into the new agencies and countries. That approach had failed every time. Instead of growing alone, why not unite with other leading, like-minded agencies across the Nordics? So if the first leading idea was the woolen sock = employee happiness, the second one was this: invite each agency to a round table like a “potluck party,” making each a partner, bringing their unique strengths and experience and taking something from that table, strengthening the others and learning from the others.

The Creation
of LIWLIG

And so, the journey began. The very first to join was Eventyr from Stockholm, led by Sofi, with their unparalleled creative content, from film to scenography, and a strong culture. Next was Nine Yards from Gothenburg, led by Rasmus, with a focus on building brands through strategic events and lasting client relationships. Oslo’s 6.Sans, led by Per Morten, added their award-winning insight and brand strategy process, followed by Copenhagen’s Welcome, led by Jannik, experts in designing meetings that perfectly fit the occasion and achieve outstanding outcomes. Then Gyro from Oslo, led by Trine, joined. Lovers of complex, large-scale projects, bringing their full-service media expertise into the mix, and lastly, Off Piste from Oslo, led by Jan Axel, whose expertise lies in bespoke events for highly demanding groups and individuals.

The Uniqueness

In just a couple of years, LIWLIG has become the leading event agency in the Nordics and the largest. But the strength of LIWLIG is not that we are big but because we are many. We are many different, unique, beautiful individuals who, despite the many differences, share the same values and the dream picture of equal partners around the potluck party, wearing woolen socks.

A brand is a person’s intuitive feeling about a combined set of attributes and lived experiences. Everyone has their own interpretation and, when enough individuals share a common understanding, a brand starts to build.

However, a brand might also be known by associations made by the outside world.
To align these outside perspectives with the self-image of the company is essentially what branding is about.

To be relevant for our clients, we base our brand position not on our own skills, but on negative tention points. These are concerns or problems our clients face, and when solved we have a chance to be choosen, again and again.
